About

Why

The intention of this site is to provide access to a collection of images on and around the Isle of Mull. When I was looking for information about what to see and do on the island I found I was struggling to find information on what I could see and do at each time of year. Particularly with the wildlife section i am indicating what time of year each collection of photos was taken.
The photos included here are scaled down to a resolution suitable for web display but are from original high resolution digital images. Selected high resolution prints are available from The Shop.

Cameras

The images were taken using digital cameras rather than the traditional chemical-based film camera.
Most of the images were taken by Rob using an 8 Mega-pixel Canon EOS 350D, a digital SLR, fitted with a Tamron 28-300mm zoom lens. The EOS 350D was one of Canon’s first ‘pro-sumer’ digital SLRs - a traditional style camera with interchangeable lenses and where the viewfinder looks through the lens via a combination of a mirror and a prism so the user can be sure that what he sees through the viewfinder is the same thing as the camera will see when the photo is taken.
I have invested in a 10.1 mega-pixel Canon EOS 40D DSLR for my 2009 photography - a slightly higher resolution and higher specification camera than the 350D.
Additional images were taken by Carol using a Canon A430 digital compact camera which has just been replaced by a higher specification Canon A2000 ready for our next trip. The A2000 provides higher resolution and more zoom than the A430.
